Keepsake Urns: A Guide for Families Who Want to Stay Connected
When a family loses someone, grief doesn't stay in one place. Children live in different cities. Siblings are scattered across states or countries. And yet the need to feel close to the person who is gone is something everyone shares.
A keepsake urn is one quiet way to honour that need. Small enough to hold in your palm, meaningful enough to last a lifetime.
This is a gentle guide to help you find what feels right.
What is a keepsake urn?
A keepsake urn is a small, beautifully crafted vessel designed to hold a portion of cremated remains. Unlike a full-size urn, it is made to be carried, placed on a bedside table, or kept somewhere deeply personal.
It is not a replacement for a primary urn. It is a way for multiple people to each have something of their own, wherever home happens to be.
Our Wildflower Breeze Keepsake Urn holds approximately 1.5 oz of cremated remains and measures 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide. It is crafted from the same solid metal as our full-size urn, small enough to hold in one hand and made to be kept close.

Who are keepsake urns for?
Keepsake urns are for family members who live far away and need their own place to grieve. But they are just as much for the friend who showed up every time, the neighbour who knew them for forty years, the person who does not fit neatly into any category but felt the loss just as deeply.
They are also for anyone who is not ready, or simply does not want, a large urn as a presence in their home. Something small that can live on a nightstand, in a quiet corner, or somewhere only they know about. Close enough to feel like something, simple enough to feel like peace.
Keepsake urns are also a thoughtful option for families who plan a scattering ceremony. Each person can keep a small portion as a lasting reminder, while still honouring a shared farewell.
How much does a keepsake urn hold?
An Always With Us Keepsake Urn holds 1.5 oz, which is approximately 3 tablespoons of cremated remains. It is designed to hold a meaningful portion rather than the full set of ashes, which typically requires a full-size urn with a capacity of around 200 cubic inches.
If you are unsure how much space you need, as a general guide, most providers recommend roughly one cubic inch of space per pound of body weight. If you are unsure, your funeral home can advise. For a smaller, personal tribute, the keepsake is ideal. For home display as the primary resting place, our full-size urn is the right choice.

How do families divide ashes respectfully?
Families approach this differently, and that is how it should be. Many families choose to do this together as part of a small, private gathering, turning the moment into something meaningful rather than just practical.
A funeral director or cremation provider can offer guidance on the physical steps. What matters most is that the process feels considered and intentional for your family.
Some families order several keepsake urns at once so every member who wants one can have their own. At $19.95 each, it is one of the most accessible ways to give everyone something to hold onto.

Where do people display keepsake urns?
Some families keep it on a bedside table, others carry it with them. One of our customers keeps hers in the room where her mother used to read. There is no single right place.
Our Keepsake Urns are designed to live somewhere it can be seen. Its size makes it unobtrusive, and its design makes it something you will actually want to have nearby.
